The 20 Year Homicide Report is a report by Darrin Howell that I visualized as a web-based info graphic site for Blackstonian.com back in 2010. We recenly relaunched it as a wordpress based site with updated graphics and visuals.
The report breaks down the 1,465 murders that took place in Boston between 1988 and 2008 by various criteria and metrics. This was one of my first attempts at visualizing so much data and while it seems a little crude and basic 3 years later it is still a project that set me in a new direction in terms of how I can use my work to address social issues. The site has been viewed now by thousands of visitors and I hope to revisit this project as the 25 year homicide report, adding the last 5 years of data and improving on the site and visualizations.
