Not even counting all the singles, I have done (or worked on) all of Catch Wreck‘s album art for his 4 projects and the Sweatshop self titled EP. So in a lot of ways, doing the cover art for ‘Origins Vol. 1’, the first of a 2 part set of re-released and un-released materiel spanning his last 13 years of work as an artist, was as much a retrospective for me as it was for him. With this cover we wanted to create something really unique for folks and something really meaningful for Jesse for whom this project represents a culmination of years of art, work, and struggle.

With the cover we wanted to make a photographic collage across the front and back art of both Volumes of ‘Origins’ that had significant moments and memories from the journey Wreck took to get here. We then worked those in around a new head shot I took of him which when angled spread across the front and back covers in such a way that each album has half of an 11×17 poster as its packaging if you unfold it. The photos range from childhood to now and feature Catch with everyone from family, friends and comrades to inspiration and idols he has had the fortune of actually meeting, performing, recording or working with like Chuck D, Kyle Jason, The Last Poets, Ernie Paniccioli NY OIL, Rah Digga, Talib Kweli, Jorll Ortiz, Wise Intelligent, Black Milk, RA the Rugged Man and many more… For now all you get to see is what you would get if you download ‘Origins’ (which you should go do) but it gives you an idea for the entire poster… stay tuned for Volume 2.

I also revamped Catch’s website and bandcamp to coincide with the release. Really proud of my dude and really excited that this is clearing the way for new material.

So, go and support the project, $pend something on it and get ready for some mind blowing new new.
